Empathy

#75 - Aug.2023

Empathy is a key ingredient for design. Is through empathy that we connect, understand and act - is a conscious choice we have to make.

While most of us have this notion of empathy as being a purely emotional state, being empathic can have different stages.

Empathy can be Cognitive (knowing how others feels), Emotional (feeling what others feel) or Compassionate (we are moved to help).

Is a process. Evolves from recognizing, then it resonates with us, until generates the compassion to act.

It is similar to a design journey.

You cognitively assess the problem. You define the assumptions. You frame it.

By immersing into the problem, you start finding insights - you connect emotionally with the opportunities and challenges. You start to ideate.

You finally converge into specific solutions to solve a problem. You take decisions. You compassion becomes action.

Practice turns empathy more intuitive. Empathize more.
