Time machine

#49 - Feb.2023

We build new things from the inspiration of others' concepts and ideas. Rarely, what we create is genuinely novel. As we iterate through this upward spiral, we add new nuances, perspectives, and personal contributions. Raising the bar. Pushing the known limits.

Looking to the past is accessing an unlimited library of knowledge. Sure, the "how" changes over time, as technology evolves, but deep in each iteration the first principles of a solution are constant.

At our core, we all keep behaviors and affordances that can help us design solutions for new challenges. We can pull from this invisible thread to learn how people dealt with problems in the past to combine today's capabilities and lay out a new horizon.

Historical research is your time machine. Look for building blocks and core principles from the past that can help you build the future.
