When generating new ideas, aim for both fluency and flexibility.
Fluency is about the speed and quantity of ideas you can generate.
Flexibility is about how distinct one idea is from another.
We often focus on fluency—the more ideas, the better. But then we realize many are just variations of the same concept.
Flexibility brings the lateral thinking that can lead to your next discovery.
You need to balance both.
