[Weekly Retro] Overgeneralization
#23 - Nov.2023
Happy Friday!
Here is a quick idea before you head off for the weekend:
Overgeneralization has its value for quick decision-making. But most of the time is a cognitive distortion.
Something becomes everything.
Overgeneralizing leads to weak assumptions and false conclusions. Prevents you from making data and evidence-driven decisions. It disconnects you from reality.
Identify the patterns. Words like "always", "everyone" or "nobody" are signals.
The world's problems are much more nuanced, and such are the solutions.
